Encouraging Each Other

Elizabeth Marie

This morning as I caught up with some relatively new friends and fellow writers, I was again reminded how important it is for us to spend time in fellowship. Recently a group of us formed to connect about all things writing to encourage each other and help with this journey of writing and sharing content. It is one thing to do the work and quite another to share it with the world and find an audience. It can be overwhelming!

Anything worthwhile in life can be challenging and involve steep learning curves. One of my friends recently described her life as a rollercoaster. She had been through the massive drop, and then there was barely time to take a breath, with the next abrupt motions from left to right throwing her this way and that, which could begin any moment.

How important it is to encourage one another. We can support each other by holding our shields of faith up. In Ephesians, St Paul encourages us to take up the shield of faith, as one part of the armor to protect us in spiritual warfare. As one person, our shield only protects us on one side. With a group of us, we can position our shields like the Romans did, so we’re fully protected from attack.

We need each other, and because we all are unique, we can sometimes rub each other the wrong way. Let’s put on love like our Lord Jesus, our window into the Godhead: Father, Son, and Holy Spirit, all the embodiment and essence of love. Let’s have each other's backs with our shields of faith.

Ephesians 6: 16 Take up the shield of faith with which you can extinguish all the flaming arrows of the evil one.
